LIBRARY ASSISTANT
The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting the Information Services Manager in the operation of the London library, and offering assistance to the Munich and Hong Kong libraries where necessary.
Responsibilities include processing the daily mail (serials check-in and routing), ordering, processing and returning library materials, shelving books and updating loose-leaf materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Checks all Library mail onto the online library catalogue.
2.Routes selected print serials and maintains routing lists for such titles.
3.Tracks and claims any missing publication issues.
4.Distributes the standard office copy titles to new attorneys and legal assistants.
5.Responds to all requests to purchase materials for the Library's collection. Places and tracks orders with the library's vendors, and reviews invoices for accuracy before submitting for payment.
6.Maintains the library's catalog by adding new materials, and removing out-of-date materials. Coordinates the cataloging and processing of new books and periodicals.
7.Shelves books and other library materials, ensuring that they are shelved in correct call number order. Pulls out-of date materials from the shelf.
8.Files loose-leaf updates and ensures set are up to date.
9.Special projects as assigned.
10.Organises user-names and passwords for research databases for new joiners and arranges training on research databases when required.
11.Some research, as requested by the Information Services Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1.Strong attention to detail.
2.Excellent customer service skills.
3.Ability to work independently.
4.Proficiency in Word, e-mail and database searching.
5.Experience in the SIRSI library catalog system is desirable.
6.Previous law library experience is preferred.
